What would you do if a group of strange men come into your home, raped you, and forced you to watch as they murdered your family?
While many women here in the US might have an outlet for help, the women in the Congo experience such atrocities on a regular basis.
The Democratic Republic of Congo(DRC), located in Central Africa, has a tremendous amount of resources such as diamonds, coltan, gold and so many other riches. Since 1996, over 6 million Congolese, mostly women and children, have died as a consequence of the resource war.
The purpose of this event is to raise awareness and educate the Towson community about the issues faced by the women and children of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Join us as we educate ourselves about this terrible situation in Congo.
There will be guest speakers from the Friends of Congo organization and the African Diaspora Club as well performances by TU students.
The evening will end by a Q&A session about how you can really get involved in stopping violence against women in the DRC.
This event is hosted by the African Diaspora Club,The Friends of Congo and the Feminist Collective.
