In order to bring awareness to the humanitarian crisis taking place in Congo where more than 6 million people have died from the civil war that has been going on since 1996, the African Diaspora Club is hosting a rally tomorrow Tuesday October 21st 2008, under the Lecture Hall from 11:45am to 3:30pm.

Congo WeekThe rally is called “Break the Silence” and it will be taking place across the world from October 19-25. This crisis in Congo has been labeled as the deadliest conflict since World War II. It is estimated that hundreds of thousands of women have been raped, and thousands more are raped daily. The Congolese have been exploited for their abundance of natural resources, particularly Coltane, the leading ingredient in cell phones. This is why we urge everyone who own cell phones they no longer use to please bring it to ADC’s meeting on Thursday October 23rd 2008, to help stop the exploitation.

The media have not shed light on this issue so colleges/universities; organization and businesses around the world will be hosting events throughout this “Break the Silence Week.”

Also as part of bringing awareness to this issue we urge everyone to wear the color red tomorrow. For more information about this issue feel free to visit http://www.congoweek.org.

Thank you all for your support and see you tomorrow!!!
