Her music has been described as inspirational and enlightening R&B music with a soulful and gospel sound. Who is this Nigerian-Canadian young lady taking the music scene by storm? Born Tolulope Olumide, Tolumide is the next hottest artist. A native of Lagos, Nigeria, Tolumide has always enjoyed the arts. Her stage name, a combination of her first and last name, means "Thank you God."
She was raised in Nigeria and eventually moved to Canada. She attended the York University for Fine Arts in Toronto, Canada, where she further envisioned a career in the arts. Tolumide has shown her gift through various forms of art. Her time spent in the university’s art department was all she needed to confirm her calling. Indeed Tolumide is multi-talented, as her abilities range from singing, to songwriting to composing. In 2006 she was honored at the Nigerian Entertainment Awards and received the award for Best Female R&B artist. Tolumide credits great artists such as Anita Baker, Sade and Celine Dion as musicians she admires. While in Canada she was a member of an all-girl band known as “Woman ah Run Tings.” They performed at many venues and in the past have opened up for popular dancehall acts including Beenie Man and Bounty Killer. The band is a four-time nominee of the Canadian Reggae/Dancehall Awards. Today, Tolumide has relocated to the Maryland/DC area. She is performing solo with her band known as Day Springs. Tolumide also performs with her church choir, at weddings, festivals and other venues. If you have not been fortunate enough to hear Tolumide’s music or seen her perform, it is not too late! She will be performing at the African Explosion IV: A Night of Enchantment, A Royal Affair. You won’t want to miss this performance! See you there.
