"I'm so proud to be African" read many Facebook statuses the day after the DC Caribbean Carnival. The experience was just that great! It started with a powerful collaboration between AfriCarnival, AllAfricanPromo and a group, very dear to ADC's heart, Team Africa.Though the AfriCarnival float has been a part of the DC Caribbean Carnival for several years now, many in attendance at this year's carnival, argue that this was the best. The float's theme was a tribal theme, with both men and women's outfits resembling Zulu warriors. The participation included students from different area schools.

Ivorian Hope's "I ♥ Africa" shirts were a big hit as well. Some of ADC's finest were a part of this float and even those that were not wearing costumes, danced down the streets of Georgia Avenue. The float grew as it descended down the parade route. Hundreds of people joined on the float. Mariatu Savage, describes the event as "truly moving and one of the best times to be African." The organizers of the float probably felt the same sentiment. "It just made me extremely happy to see how others can enjoy our culture through music and dance. Most importantly, it showed unity among Africans...it wasn't about being Nigerian, Ghanaian, or Sierra Leonean, it was about being African," said Sam Adaramola of Team Africa, Global
It was certainly an event to remember!
